Burns shine as the Brewers beat the Giants 2-1 to open a double header

Milwaukee (AFP) – Corbin Burns hit 14 minutes and allowed three hits in eight closed rounds as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Francisco Giants 2-1 in the opener with a double-header on Thursday.

Burns came in on Thursday after allowing 17-earned innings in 21 runs during his last four starts, causing his ERA to rise from 2.39 to 3.02. He came out of that mini slump against the Giants while showing off the shape that enabled him to win the NL Cy Young award last season.

Burns hit 10 or more hitters for the ninth time this season to equal the Brewers’ one-season record set by Ben Sheets in 2004.

Burns (10-6) also holds the franchise record for double-digit strike games at number 21.
