Canada beats USA 2-1 to win women’s hockey world

Herning, Denmark (AFP) – Brian Jenner scored twice in the second half as Canada defended their title with a 2-1 victory over the United States in the Women’s World Hockey Championship final on Sunday.

Ann-Renée Desbiens saved 20 saves for Canada, who won gold in their third major international event in a year.

Abby Rock scored for the Americans and Nicole Hensley stopped 17 shots in the loss.

Canada beat the United States 3-2 in overtime a little more than a year ago in Calgary in the World Championships postponed until August due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Canada also beat the United States 3-2 in the women’s Olympic hockey final in February in Beijing.
