Looking to connect with some of the most famous players in New York sports history? The auction is the second part of Sotheby’s “Invictus” event, which is taking place at the same time as the first. Dedicated only to sell the Michael Jordan jersey from Game One of the 1998 NBA Finals His last season with the Chicago Bulls. (Estimated winning bid? Between $3 million and $5 million.)

The highly anticipated event is Sotheby’s largest ever auction of sports memorabilia, with a special focus on New York.

“We tried to pick a lot of things that spoke of really specific moments in time that we felt collectors would be interested in,” Brahm Wachter, head of Sotheby’s Streetwear and Modern Collectibles, told The Post, adding that sports memorabilia is a “category New and exciting” for the auction house.

Here’s a look at 10 items that are sure to make die-hard athletes’ dreams come true — anyway.

Auction items will be on display from September 6-14 at Sotheby’s, 1334 York Ave. , during normal business hours.

A historic piece from Wayne Gretzky’s time with the Rangers is up for auction.

The Great One spent a relatively short time as a New York rangerBut his stint as a blues jersey in the late ’90s made Wayne Gretzky an unforgettable career finalist. The hockey stick will score from its last NHL appearance – a 2-1 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden on April 18, 1999 – again at the upcoming auction.

“It’s a nostalgic piece — Wayne Gretzky at Madison Square Garden, in front of an out-of-stock crowd, performing his last performance,” Wachter said, noting that Number 99 originally gave the wand, and the rest of his gear, to his teammates after the Stanley Cup winner’s final skate four times.

Estimated winning bid: $125,000 – $150,000

Jordan Jeter

Special Nike shoes made in honor of Derek Jeter will fetch thousands at auction.

Even after the captain decided to hang up his hat at the end of 2014, Derek Jeter was still making sports history —This time with Air Jordan in 2017, when the former Bronx Bomber was honored with a blue and white Yankee-design sneaker featured on his No. 2 heel. The move got fans wild.

“This was a very limited edition by the Jordan brand,” Wachter said. “generally, [this is] One of the most sought after Air Jordan models by collectors – there is a very small amount of them available.”

Five pairs, to be exact, were exclusively distributed by lottery at a pop-up near Yankee Stadium, according to Sotheby’s.

Pep (and Jackie) ball

The story behind the precious baseball signed by New York Yankee Babe Ruth and Brooklyn Dodger Jackie Robinson goes back to the fall of 1947 in a match between the Dodgers and Reds in Cincinnati. A local kid brought a fountain pen and one of his most valuable possessions – a ball already engraved with John Hancock of Great Bambino, with room for more than a few extra signatures.

“To get ahead of the fans, we left the match before it finished in the ninth inning and went to the bottom of the field where the players were walking out of the field once the match was over,” the anonymous seller told Sotheby’s. “Jackie Robinson, being the first black player in Major League Baseball, was under constant threat, and he left the field the moment the game ended. And so he was the first to sign me for baseball.”

Brooklyn took the match 7-3, According to baseball reference.

After the soon-to-be retired tennis legend played her last game at the US Open, a signed pair of Serena Williams sneakers, designed by fashion icon Virgil Abloh, will be on display.

Abloh designed Nike’s “Queen” collection to celebrate the outstanding athlete and the 50th Anniversary of the Open Back in 2018.

“We didn’t know the US Open was going to be her last appearance when we got it,” Wachter noted. “I think it will be one of the most exciting items in the auction.”

Nadal kicks

The black and purple Rafael Nadal Nike Air “Zoom Cage 3” shoes he wore during the 2019 US Open quarterfinals against Diego Schwartzman offer a glimpse into the character of the tennis legend.

“There’s a little detail that I love about the left-hand sneaker,” Wachter said. “There are actually quite a few marks here for 10, 13 and 17 for [years of] The US Open he won.

“Just his legacy in the NBA and how much I miss him as an athlete — it’s such an honor to have this piece,” Wachter said.

“I think both fighters, by the end of that battle, were barely steadfast. These are incredible remnants from that time period and from that battle,” Wachter said.

“No other sneakers from Steve Prefontaine have ever appeared on the market,” Wachter said. “So from a rarity perspective and from the perspective of something really important to Nike’s history, it’s as good a thing as it gets.”

King James is finally bringing his talents to the Big Apple – Somewhat. Sotheby’s is selling autographed LeBron “Zoom LeBron 3” sneakers, which he wore when he was a Cleveland Cavalier in the 2005-2006 season. They are an item that speaks to the grit of the four-time NBA champion, according to Watchter.

“He scored 34 points with this shoe, plus eight assists and three rebounds,” Wachter said.

The shoes are also inadvertently related to one of the remnants of the NBA – the now-defunct Seattle Supersonics, who faced LeBron and Cavs in their December 2005 game. Apparently, they weren’t a lucky shoe — the Sonics won, 115-108.

Estimated winning bid: $40,000 – $60,000

“I think that’s exceptional, because A-Rod has only won one world championship,” Wachter said. “Championship deduction items have a certain level of rarity. So this is really something that is at the highest attainable level for that particular athlete.”
